Stop Sign Ticket in Indianapolis
30+ Years of Traffic Defense. We Review Every Citation Before You Respond.
A stop sign citation may look routine, but the consequences that follow a conviction aren’t. At Rathburn Law Office, P.C., we bring the same evidence-focused approach we apply to DUI and complex traffic matters to every citation we review. Before you pay that fine or plead guilty, talk to us.
We offer free initial virtual consultations by phone or online contact form. Call us at (463) 465-2401 to discuss your Indianapolis stop sign ticket before it becomes a conviction on your record.
What a Stop Sign Conviction Adds to Your Driving Record
Disregarding a stop sign is a 4-point moving violation under the Indiana BMV point system. Those points stay active on your record for two years from the date of conviction, counting toward any future accumulation and remaining visible to your insurance carrier.
The insurance impact is direct: a conviction for a traffic citation can trigger a premium increase at your next policy renewal. Points also add up faster than most drivers expect. If you’re convicted of two or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period, the BMV may require you to complete a Driver Safety Program before your driving privileges are fully restored.
Higher Stakes for Commercial Drivers & Repeat Violations
For some drivers, an Indianapolis stop sign citation carries consequences well beyond four points. Our practice includes representing commercial drivers and individuals facing habitual traffic violator matters as part of our complex traffic defense work. We understand how a single citation fits into a larger picture.
Commercial Drivers
For a CDL holder, a citation and any resulting suspension can put the commercial driving privileges tied to their livelihood at risk. An infraction that a non-commercial driver might absorb without serious consequence can have real career implications for a professional driver. We have experience handling CDL defense cases and understand how points and citations affect commercial driving privileges.
Habitual Traffic Violator Status
Under Indiana’s Habitual Traffic Violator law, a driver who accumulates 10 or more traffic violations within a 10-year period, including at least one major offense such as reckless driving, faces a five-year suspension of driving privileges. Drivers with two or three major offenses within a 10-year period can face suspensions of 10 years or, in cases involving death, a lifetime suspension. A stop sign citation that seems minor today may be one of several violations pushing you toward that threshold.
Schedule a Free Consultation Before You Respond to the Citation
With more than 30 years of experience defending DUI and traffic violation clients throughout Indianapolis and Central Indiana, we don’t treat any citation as a formality. We review the circumstances behind the stop and the citation itself before advising a course of action. Virtual consultations are available statewide, so there’s no need for an in-person visit to discuss your options.

“I am always impressed by his knowledge and understanding and ability to think outside of the box.”- Mary M.
Call Chuck!
"Chuck’s knowledge and understanding of breath alcohol instruments is exceptional. He worked closely with a manufacturer for many years learning and sharing the knowledge with the defense community. I have gone to Chuck on many occasions to discuss breath alcohol issues and aspects of how the instrumentation deals with the sampling and analysis. I consider him one of the leading experts on breath alcohol within the defense community. As an attorney, Chuck works hard for his clients and doesn’t just deal cases away. He takes the cases personal and fights to get the best resolution possible. In my 30 some years as an expert in breath alcohol testing, Chuck Rathburn is, by far, one of my favorite attorneys for consulting and brainstorming ways to expose the pseudoscience and bad science in the alcohol testing community. I am always impressed by his knowledge and understanding and ability to think outside of the box. I do not hesitate to say Call Chuck!"- Mary M. -
